What Stories Want — from an exhibition?
After a year-long residency at MORPHO, artists Che Go Eun, Tom Hallet, Julia Dahee Hong, Béla Juttner and Joud Toamah make an exhibition, a public programme, and a publication proposing the question: what do stories want? Each of the artists looks at the fabric of the story in their own way. Not only do they propose new stories, but they also analyse the inner function of the story. These artists put the power dynamics of presumably persuasive narrative arcs into question. What is the story’s previous trajectory, current agenda, and possible future? Each artist decrypts the codes of different arenas: Joud Toamah speculates on photography, Béla Juttner works between performance and fashion, Tom Hallet unearths queer countercultures through drawing, Che Go Eun digs into manga and cyberculture, and Julia Dahee Hong departs from writing itself.
What Stories Want — from a programme?
Every Sunday, the artists animate their work by means of a public event, either online or on site. Béla Juttner stages a play on the role of healing and care-taking (14 March 2021); Julia Dahee Hong launches her Breakfast B Reading Series (21 March 2021); Joud Toamah screens an online discussion on spectatorship, displacement and the circulation of images (28 March 2021); Che Go Eun operates Chego Bunsik, a rice cake take-out, and Tom Hallet invites performers to create a soundscape and improvise upon his sculptures (4 April 2021).
