Laurens Otto
Resident
Laurens Otto is a curator and critic based in Ghent. He works on questions of circulation and distribution within economies underwriting artistic production. He is editor-in-chief of RESOLUTION Magazine, a print magazine that explores the impact of the digital image. His texts have been published by De Witte Raaf, De Appel, Sternberg Press, and nai010 / Prix de Rome. Otto worked as curator at Het HEM, Zaandam (2019-20), associate curator at Human Activities, Lusanga (2016-19) and assistant curator at Council, Paris (2015-16). Recently, he curated the exhibitions Prelude: Melancholy of the Future (Museum Dhondt-Dhaenens, Deurle, with Antony Hudek); Repatriation of the White Cube (Lusanga, DRC, with Cercle d’art des travailleurs de plantation congolaise); Mallification (Het Nieuwe Instituut, Rotterdam) and Hallucinations of the Normal (Snehta, Athens).
His residency was organised in connection to his guest curatorship of the exhibition What Stories Want, which took place at MORPHO and Kunsthal Extra City in the spring of 2021.
