Daniel Cabral

Daniel Cabral has a contextual practice that responds to his surroundings through a wide range of mediums, varying from drawing, collage, photography and video to installations, interventions in the public space and performances. His practice is based on three main pillars: the male body and the representation of masculinities (in particular concerning gay culture); speech, inspired by a background as public speaker in International Relations; and the city and the sense of displacement, initiated since he immigrated from Brazil to Belgium in 2015. Conceptually his works explore notions of authorship, appropriation and context. He transforms and repurposes found images drawn from social media, online archives, the streets, and even from his own personal archive built over years working as audio-visual producer.

Before earning a Master’s Degree in Visual Arts from Sint-Lucas Antwerp (2020), Daniel Cabral completed a B.A. in International Relations in 2012. Since then he studied Critical Theory at Chelsea College of Arts, London (2015) and worked as a painting instructor at the Museum of Modern Art at Recife, Brazil (2013-2014). In 2018, his publication “Tour Leopold II – A Guide to the Colonial Heritage of Europe” was nominated for the Prix Révélation Livre d’Artiste by the Multiple Art Days and ADAGP in Paris, France.
