Sadrie Alves

Resident

A multidisciplinary artist, Sadrie Alves develops a body of work that operates in the fields of visual arts, design and performance. The core of her practice departs from drawing as a symbolic action and as a catalyst for affective narratives and collaboration. She sees drawing as writing as singing as crafting.

During the residency, Sadrie will carry on her research that delves into the realms of lullabies and its role in the web of histories, memories, and desires of the beings that inhabit them. Simultaneously, she is currently working on different ongoing collaborative projects that share in common a focus on undermined visual languages and unreliable knowledges. Together with Hussein Shikha, she is developing 'Tales of Symbologies', a research project informed by philosophies of the carpet and the symbols present in them. With Désirée Cerocién, she is developing the musical performance 'Prazer, Bárbara' which inquires about the contemporary associations of barbarity and femininity.

Sadrie Alves was born and raised in Brasília and is currently living in the countryside of Flanders. She holds a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from Sint Lucas Antwerp. Her work has been presented at Cas-co, Leuven; The Constant Now and Het Bos, Antwerp; La semaine du son, Hectolitre and Komplot, Brussels. Before MORPHO, she engaged in residencies at Frans Masereel Centrum and deSingel, Belgium; and UNIDEE Residency Programs, Italy.
