Ines Marita Schärer
Resident
Ines Marita Schärer's practice is concerned with the precarities and vulnerabilities of diverse human and more-than-human beings within predominant power structures. She explores voice and words as a means of establishing relationality and re-imagining their conditions and environments. Her practice derives from somatic practices, is informed by the given context, permeable for various forms of knowledge, nourished and driven by thinkers, co-thinkers, collaborators, and allies.
During her residency she intends to confront the topic of "new comfort zones" with the idea of "discomfort ". She examines how moments of discomfort have the potential to set in motion, stimulate or transform established structures, concepts, and ways of thinking. Ines will focus on sound, especially, on noise (music) and its immersive experience, on the one hand as a means of reflecting on the term of "discomfort", on the other as means to blur the distinction of the individual and the collective.
Ines is based in Brussels and holds a Master in Art Practice DAI, Dutch Art Institute in Holland (2019) and a Bachelor in Fine Arts, HKB, Bern (2012). She had residencies at Cité des Arts in Paris (Visarte, 2013), Vienna (Canton Graubünden, 2014), Field Kitchen Academy (Germany, 2019), Overtoon, Brussels (2021) and FO.R.E.ST in Estonia (Forum For Radical Ecology Study) and participated in group exhibitions at Stadtgalerie Bern, Kunsthaus Langenthal, Z33, Hasselt, and in various projects in public space, such as Ortung in Chur, Kunstwege in Pontresina and Künstplatze in Bern, Switzerland.
One of her main projects, +41 (0)800 00 12 16 - A Voice Message Project, serves as an experimental platform for poetic pieces and language-based works (www.0800001216.ch). She regularly works in collectives such as Seasonal Neighbours, Softshell, or in collaboration with others as sound artist and musician Francesco Fonassi, and Brussels based composer Caroline Profanter. She is also part of the experimental band project Fata Organa.
