Eva Van Tongeren

1990, lives and works in Antwerp, Belgium

Eva Van Tongeren works as a curator and filmmaker. Her visual essays include “Er zijn geen walvissen in Frankrijk” or “Van ver staat het stil”. Through long-standing correspondences with her subjects, the artist explores the limits of personal boundaries. Often resulting in images of serenity, silent landscapes, interspersed with a melancholic voice-over. Her work discusses hope, commitment, social boundaries and a state of peace. The artist tries to grasp a problem that is not hers. leaving us to wonder How should one handle such delicate topics?

Eva Van Tongeren holds a master’s degree in Audiovisual Art from Luca School of Arts, Brussels. In 2016 she received a ‘Special Mention Filmmaker’ at the Cambridge Watersprite Festival and won the ‘Future 1st prize’ at the IN OUT Festival in Gdansk. In 2015 she received a VAF Wildcard Filmlab. Eva is part of the collective called ‘Imagerie’ hosting and curating film festivals.
