Sophie Thun

Resident

Sophie Thun is an artist working primarily with techniques of analog photography, its spaces, processes and conditions of production and exhibition. During her residency period at Thinking Tools/MORPHO she will focus on the problem of scale and reproduction within the field of photography.

Born December 1985 in Frankfurt am Main (DE), Sophie was raised in Warsaw (PL) and lives and works in Vienna (AT) since 2010. She completed her master’s degrees at the Academies of Fine Art in Vienna (AT) in 2017 (Martin Guttmann and Daniel Richter), and Cracow (PL) in 2010 (Agata Pankiewicz and Jacek Gaj). She is a member of the board of the Association of Visual Artists Vienna Secession, and teaches at the Kunstakademie Duesseldorf.

She had solo and duo exhibitions a.o. in Secession Vienna, Cukrarna Ljubljana, Kim? Contemporary Art Center Riga, Camera Austria Graz, ARAC Bucharest, C/O Berlin, Kunstverein Hildesheim, SOPHIE TAPPEINER Vienna, Galeria Madragoa Lisbon, Galeria Raster Warsaw. Group exhibitions include SMART Museum Chicago, Museo MACRO Rome, Kunstforum Wien, Kunsthalle Bratislava, Plečnik House Ljubljana, MISAKO & ROSEN Tokyo, Karma International Zurich, High Art Paris, Mendes Wood Paris, Sector 1 Bucharest, Bistro 21 Leipzig.
