Clare Strand
Resident
Clare Strand is a UK based artist who works and experiments with photography. Her residency at MORPHO is being carried out in conjunction with the research group Thinking Tools.
Playing A Photograph (working title) is a practice based research project exploring music and sound in relationship to the photographic image. Villem Flusser’s Into the Universe of Technical Images talks of Chamber Music as a paradigm of creativity in a telematic society. By listening to music, we can experience the vibratory nature of sound and music which takes over our body and mind and illuminates the inner darkness of our ‘black boxes’.
Clare Strand has exhibited in venues such as The Museum Folkwang; Centre Pompidou; Tate Britain; Salzburg Museum of Modern Art and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Her work is held in the collections of MOMA; SFMoma; The V&A; Centre Pompidou; The British Council; McEvoy Collection; The Arts Council; The NY Public Library; The Uni Credit Bank; The Mead Museum and Cornell University. She has produced three publications, Clare Strand Monograph published by Steidl (2009), Skirts published by GOST (2014) and Girl Plays with Snake published by MACK (2017).
