General assembly
Our general assembly is composed of the voices of our main stakeholders: the studio occupants. In bringing the members together, we aimed for a balanced representation of the different buildings and the diverse disciplines that characterise MORPHO's artist community.
These seven artists will guide the elaboration of MORPHO's mission and vision for an undetermined period:
Karina Beumer
Karina Beumer has an interactive artistic practice that is always in dialogue with something or someone else. This results in videos, installations and publications emerging from drawings. Beumer exposes an absurd and surreal relationship between the inner (thoughts, miscommunication) and the physical world (language, networks). She considers her studio an important entity for her work, both mentally and physically. She is one of the instigators of the Vitrine Project, a series of duo exhibitions of mail art, started in 2019 by the studio occupants in Tweemontstraat. Karina has had her studio there since 2015.
Jo Caimo
Jo Caimo is an artist and co-runs Toitoidrome, a collective studio for sound and media art in Zendelingenstraat since 2019. Jo also organises their own residency and workplace for artists, friends and neighbours called Samenschool. These self-organisations are an ongoing artistic and political quest that they are keen to engage with others. Jo commits to hopefully forming a stronger connective tissue to safeguard a more diverse and larger group of art practitioners from the neoliberal pressures of this society, that destroy art and creativity.

Charlotte Dumortier
Charlotte Dumortier is an illustrator and printmaker. She is co-organiser of Tekenpudding festival and editorial board member of Aline Magazine for Comics and Art. Since 2016, she has been an uninterrupted part of Kopland on the Amerikalei. Kopland has been trying to maintain its community since MORPHO took over the building from the non-profit KOP, by organising communal meals, for example. Charlotte is committed to keeping the spirit of this beautiful co-working place alive.
Andrea Kränzlin
Andrea Kränzlin is a fashion and costume designer, leatherworker, herbalist and collector. She designs costumes for several Belgian and international theatre and dance productions such as Zuidpool, Eastman, Moya Michael and Haider Al Timimi. The use of ancient techniques and craftsmanship are important aspects of her work. Andrea has had a studio in Quellinstraat since 2016, when the house was still managed among friends. Since 2021, it has been under the management of MORPHO. Caring for a studio building is close to her heart, especially now that there are not so many buildings available and affordable anymore, where artists can shape their ideas and vision freely and at their own pace.

Ingrid Schildermans
Ingrid Schildermans creates installations that take a socio-anthropological look at the social position and transformative power of women. For this, she draws inspiration from popular culture, such as magazines, and visualises her research with banal materials such as fluorescent paint, glitter and gamma building materials. She is also responsible for relations and event management at M HKA. In this capacity, she keeps a keen eye on the needs of artists in relation to those of the surrounding art world. She has had a studio in Ploegstraat since 2019.
Barbara Serulus
Barbara Serulus is a food writer for De Standaard Magazine and Knack Weekend. She writes articles, reports, develops recipes and gets a seat at the table for restaurant reviews all over the country. Her enthusiasm is fed by zealous farmers, visionary futurists and heroic food artisans. She also writes books, such as Fizz, a handbook for anyone who wants to learn fermentation, and Diner, a cookbook for simple yet spectacular dinners. She is also the co-founder of the culinary content agency GAAR and the independent food magazine Tummie. Barbara has been part of the coworking place RAAT on Everdijstraat since 2019.
Mulugeta Tafesse
Mulugeta Tafesse creates paintings and drawings that show his appreciation for the Dutch and Flemish old masters. His palette, whether he works in oil, tempera or acrylic, is typically muted and soft, giving his portraits an intimate character. Mulugeta is the living memory of our organisation; he is our very first studio occupant. Since 2005, before we even existed properly, he has had a studio at MORPHO - then still under the wings of the NICC. He recently moved his workplace from Hertstraat to Klappeistraat.
