Noa Verkeyn
Resident
Noa Verkeyn (1997, Belgium) graduated from KASK, Ghent in 2021 with a series of poppy flower drawings. By humanizing these flowers, they serve to observe the relationship between the self, others, and nature. Over the last few years, her work started to incorporate new symbols such as hearts, crystal glasses, and thorn stems, exploring worlds where mysticism has to be created anew.
Her residency at Tabakalera is an opportunity to experiment further with the role of drawing in this new context. Through color, symbolism and figuration she tries to create a world that has its origins in the different places where she has stayed for periods of time, such as the Basque Country.
Noa is co-founder of the collective Medusa since 2019. Her recent exhibitions include ‘Les Planches Félées Festival’, France, ‘Crystal Clear’, a solo exhibition at Tatjana Pieters Gallery, Ghent and rundgang.io and 1-06 Group Exhibition in Berlin in 2023, ‘Even a broken clock is right twice a day’, a group exhibition by Peer Vink at Ten Haaf projects, Amsterdam, and ‘Castlemania: Open the Gates!’, a group exhibition at Galerie Fleur & Wouter in Amsterdam in 2024.
