Gala Knörr
Resident
Gala Knörr’s artistic practice reflects on and delves into our navigation, resistance, and survival amidst our transformed digital reality. It probes the multifaceted nature of images, their shared meanings, and their impact on our collective consciousness. Through the exploration of the power of visual languages, Gala makes multidisciplinary installations that reflect on the cultural and political contexts. Starting from the pictorial, Knörr has worked in media such as video, performance or writing, exploring issues related to media, the construction of shared histories and popular culture.
During her residency Gala Knörr will research the architectures of leisure in Belgium, specially those generated during socio-economic crisis deeply associated with club culture, to construct a multidisciplinary installation. Reviewing the aesthetic generated within those spaces of collective euphoria and enjoyment, she will construct an archive to work from, and create an installation of patterned fabrics and paintings that shall form a tent or yurt like space, a dwelling usually associated with nomadism.
Gala (1984, Vitoria-Gasteiz) has a degree in Fine Arts from Parsons Paris The New School and holds an MFA from Central Saint Martins (London). She has participated in various art residencies at Fundación Bilbaoarte in Bilbao (2022), AIR Wro in Wroclaw (2021), Centre for Postcolonial Studies at Goldsmiths in London (2018) and The Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York (2017). Her work has been recently exhibited at DA2 (Salamanca), Guggenheim (Bilbao), Casal Solleric (Palma), CentroCentro (Madrid), La Casa Encendida (Madrid), Raum MG16 (Cologne),and Le Port de Créateurs (Toulon).
