Miguel Escobar
Resident
Miguel Escobar is an artist that lives and works between Bruges and Cali. He uses video installations in order to explore and deconstruct the visual tropes that structure the perception of our environment. Focusing on the familiar, the unnoticed, he researches subterranean stories that are interwoven through conceptual arrangements. During his residency he takes the time to launch a new investigation starting from the life and work of an American horticulturist, an editor of garden magazines who happened to have designed an infamous camouflage pattern used by the US Army in the Forties. From there, Escobar tells a story that bifurcates through nature and appropriation, culture and violence.
Miguel Escobar (1992, Colombia) holds two Master’s degrees from LUCA School of Arts in Brussels, in Fine Arts and Photography (2020-21). He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Plastic Arts at the Instituto Departamental de Bellas, Cali, in 2017. Recent screenings and exhibitions include: FIVA, Centro Cultural San Martin, Buenos Aires; Input/Output, Poortersloge, Bruges (both 2021); Loops.Expanded, Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporanea do Chiado, Lisbon; Tryout Eva Maria Bouillon and Miguel Escobar, De Tank, Bruges (both 2020); Untitled 2 - Crowd portraits series, La Vitrina, Lugar a Dudas, Cali (2018).
