The roots of Mathieu Verhaeghe’s art practice are situated in the tradition of painting. Over time it has evolved towards a multidisciplinary practice with conceptual and performative aspects, whereby the emphasis often shifts towards actions of the artist. Mathieu investigates the tension between existential weight and lighthearted relativism. His work presents itself as a reflexion of the artist on himself, artistry, and art as object.
