Helena Laguna Bastante

Resident

Helena Laguna Bastante (2000, Spain) is an interdisciplinary artist and curator based in Barcelona. Her practice is grounded in a sustained interest in writing and its limits, as well as in the potential of the body and gesture as spaces for relation, attention, and encounter. Through process-based and research oriented methodologies, her work unfolds in dialogue with the contexts in which it is situated, exploring formats that move between sculpture, writing, performance, action, and curatorial practice as modes of situated and relational research.

At MORPHO, Helena will develop 'To Grope One's Way', a research project that explores contact as a methodology for orientation, knowledge production, and artistic practice. Drawing on Contact Improvisation, phenomenology, and thinkers such as Adriana Cavarero and Sara Ahmed, the project approaches touch, inclination, and relation as ways of producing form through encounter. Rather than pursuing a predefined outcome, the residency will become a process of situated experimentation in which sculpture, writing, movement, and spatial interventions emerge through dialogue with MORPHO's architecture, rhythms, and collective dynamics.

Helena holds a BA in Fine Arts and an MA in Artistic Research and Production from the University of Barcelona, as well as a postgraduate degree in Curatorial Studies from EINA. Her trajectory has developed through research and artistic support programmes, including Can Felipa Arts Visuals, the residency program at Hangar, L'Estruch, Homesession, the Guasch Coranty Foundation, the Curatorial Research Program at Fundació Brossa, and POLS at Museu Tàpies. Her work has been presented at Manifesta 15, Fundació Joan Miró, La Panera, La Capella, Centre d'Arts Santa Mònica, MACBA, and Centro Cultural de España in Buenos Aires, among others.
