Hatice Pinarbasi
Resident
Hatice Pinarbasi uses everyday objects and fabrics to humanize her paintings. They behave as characters that both communicate between each other and anticipate the spectator’s gaze. Spectators are urged to rotate or stretch their bodies, turning viewing into a form of optical gymnastics. Language is the thread that runs through her work, whispering or screaming signs, symbols and references to politics and poetics. Recently, she has been using natural motifs as metaphors for the relationship between humans and society.
Hatice Pinarbasi (1993, France) lives and works in Pierrefitte-sur-Seine. She holds a Master’s degree from Beaux-Arts de Paris and was an artist-in-residence at HFBK Hamburg (studio Jutta Koether, 2020). Past exhibitions include: Mariage de peinture (with Hugo Ferretto), Chapel Notre-Dame in Villeneuve-sur-Yonne; TAARIBHAGATMAAAAAAA, Cité des Arts de Paris in the context of Nous ne sommes pas le nombre que nous croyons être organised by Bétonsalon, Paris (2018). In 2021 she will participate in group exhibitions at Salon de Montrouge and Palais des Beaux-Arts de Paris.
