Günbike Erdemir
Resident
Günbike Erdemir is a visual artist that lives and works in Antwerp. Her drawing practice extends the bounds of paper and travels through different shapes, materials, and media. Themes such as female and mystical figures, fertility, queerness and sensuality are often adapted to a contemporary setting. In her practice, she investigates the relationships between (Islamic) mythology and urban tales by using appealing narratives of serenity and comfort, but also the uncanniness one finds in darkness, death and dirt. During her residency she will explore narrative dissemination methods such as “chain letters” or “faxlore”.
Günbike Erdemir (1995, Turkey) holds a BA in Product Design from Istanbul Bilgi University (2017) and recently finished her MA in Visual Arts in Royal Academy of Arts Ghent (2021). Her work has been shown in exhibitions (a selection): Generation Brussels, 2021; The First Cavedweller, Atelier Grotto, Brussels, 2021; Currents #8: And Me, Streams of You, Marres, Maastricht, 2020; Waldeinsamkeit, castle parc Windenburg, Wingene, 2020; and Mamut Art Project, Istanbul, 2018.
