Exchange Residency EXTRA

The French Embassy in Belgium and MORPHO are delighted to inaugurate their collaboration in 2025 with an international residency exchange. The Embassy supports the participation of one artist from France going to Antwerp for a two-month residency, in the framework of ‘RÉSIDENCES EXTRA’, its support programme to promote contemporary French creation in Belgium.

Period

The residency in Antwerp, Belgium, lasts for 2 months, from August 1 until September 30, 2025.

About MORPHO

MORPHO is an artist-focused development organisation for visual and multidisciplinary work in Antwerp. It manages fifteen studio buildings and an international residency programme, advocates the place of artists in the city to policymakers and gives visibility to their presence to a wider audience. MORPHO’s main premises are located behind Antwerp Central Station and Zoo, in the director's house of a former biscuit factory (residency) and a former Dominican monastery (studios). The monastery site is shared with Kunsthal Extra City. MORPHO has been funded by the city of Antwerp since 2007 and by the Flemish government since 2022.

About EXTRA

The French Embassy in Belgium, in collaboration with four Belgian cultural institutions and two French partners, is launching a new network of artistic residencies in Belgium in 2025. This initiative is part of EXTRA, a program supporting and promoting contemporary French creation in Belgium. As a new tool to support artistic research and mobility between France and Belgium, the EXTRA residencies aim to strengthen exchanges between the French and Belgian creative scenes, particularly in the fields of digital arts, visual arts, and experimental video games.

The EXTRA residencies project is an initiative of the French Embassy in Belgium, in partnership with the Alliance Française Bruxelles-Europe and the Institut français in Paris, as part of the "La Fabrique des résidences" program, joining a network of around 50 residencies in nearly 30 countries worldwide. It benefits from the support of the France-Belgium Fund and Wallonia-Brussels International to support the French part of the cross-residencies.
