Exchange Residency AUDRA Festival

AUDRA and MORPHO are delighted to inaugurate their collaboration in 2025 with an international residency exchange. The Contemporary City Festival supports the participation of one artist from Lithuania going to Antwerp for a two-month residency, followed by a presentation in the framework of its art program in Kaunas.

In 2025, the festival will focus on food in urban environments with the theme Edible City. We are therefore calling for project proposals in relation to this theme that can result in a presentation or live moment. This collaboration brings forth the best of two worlds: providing time, space and curatorial support during the residency and production support, exposure and scale during the festival.

Period

  • The residency in Antwerp, Belgium, lasts for 2 months, from May 1 until June 30, 2025.
  • The presentation in Kaunas, Lithuania, starts on September 18, 2025, and the festival would individually speak with the selected artist about how much time they need to install depending on the work.

For whom?

  • This call is open to artists living in Lithuania (residents and nationals).
  • Interdisciplinary artists, performers, chefs, experimental architects, musicians, DJs and gardeners are encouraged to apply, especially those interested in night cultures, raves, world-building, performance, creative food practices, urban foraging, preservation, craft, botany, bio-design, and regenerative practices.
  • There is only room for 1 adult, possibly with a child (arranging daycare is challenging but we have good contacts with a municipal primary school).

MORPHO offers (during the development phase)

  • Artistic, productional and administrative guidance from the team.
  • Use of our shared residency house (including kitchen, living room, library and bathroom).
  • Individual workspace in the monastery (ranging between 20-30 m2).
  • Use of our project space and monastery garden.
  • Weekly programme of sessions that encourages critical dialogue and playful experimentation (composed in response to the residents’ input and interests).
  • Access to the production facilities of St Lucas School of Arts (dark room, ceramics, lasercutting or screenprinting workshops…).
  • Online presentation of your work (website and social media).
  • Newly commissioned portrait by artist-photographer Aurélie Bayad.
  • Free entrance to exhibitions and events at neighbouring Kunsthal Extra City.

AUDRA offers (during the production/presentation phase)

  • A funded production and presentation opportunity for artists across disciplines during the festival as part of the main exhibition and/or performance programme and/or Edible City project.
  • Accommodation in Kaunas during the installation process and the festival.
  • Access to necessary production facilities and workspace.
  • Support from a curator, exhibition architects, a light designer, a sound designer, engineers and a production manager.

Financial support

  • For the development phase in Antwerp: round-trip travel (up to €500) from the artist’s residence in Lithuania to Antwerp and a monthly fee of €1,000.
  • For the production/presentation phase in Kaunas: accommodation (up to 14 days) in Kaunas, per diems (up to 14 days), and one-time production support of €1,000.

About MORPHO

MORPHO is an artist-centered organisation supporting the development of artistic work in the visual arts. We do this by setting up residency programs with international exchanges and renting out workspaces below market value. We also give visibility to the artists in our network in our presentation space and advocate their place in the city with policy makers. In this way, we strive to foster a lively and solid ground for artistic work. Our main premises are located behind the Antwerp Central Station and Zoo, in a 20th-century townhouse (the residency) and former monastery (the studios). We share the monastery site and garden with Kunsthal Extra City. We are funded by the Flemish government and the city of Antwerp.

About AUDRA Festival

AUDRA (The Storm in Lithuanian) is a contemporary city festival based in Kaunas, Lithuania. AUDRA explores the forefront of dance music, rave culture, contemporary art, fashion, and architecture. With a strong social mission at its core, AUDRA aims to initiate temporal and lasting transformations of the city, offering glimpses into potential futures. The festival features an expansive music program alongside immersive exhibitions and various collaborations, fostering an environment where creativity flourishes.

About Edible City

Edible City is a collaborative project initiated by the AUDRA Festival and curated by Kultūros dirbtuvė, Sean Roy Parker, and Jonas Palekas. It focuses on urban food practices and brings together communities, artists, and experts to explore regenerative approaches to growing, foraging, preserving, and sharing food in contemporary cities. The project engages participants through workshops, lectures, pop-up cafes, and artistic interventions. Edible City proposes new scenarios for urban development while fostering community ownership and ecological accountability. The first phase of Edible City will take place at Šilainiai Urban Gardens and surrounding 8th Fort of Kaunas, Kaunas Picture Gallery and artist-run bakery.
