The Planning Table
04.11.2026

Workshop

17:00–20:00

You are invited to a 3-hour play session of The Planning Table by artists-in-residence Steph Holl-Trieu and Carina Erdmann.

The Planning Table is a role-playing game in which participants inhabit the antagonism between the desire for and resistance to systemic change. Initially, the game starts by running an economic simulation.

Over the course of the game, participants, as members of a speculative council, are asked to amend the rules at play. The session concludes with a reflection on the proceedings of the game, how these were conditioned by its rules and what consequences the rule amendments would carry if they were translated from the game world into principles and laws that govern our current economic systems.

→ There is space for minimum 6, maximum 18 people, reserve your spot by filling in the form!

An on-going interdisciplinary research project developed in collaboration with Lore D Selys, The Planning Table consists of a series of facilitated game workshops. The game was developed by nesting The International Trade Game, a pedagogical game used to demonstrate macroeconomic principles, within an adaptation of Nomic, a game designed to demonstrate ‘the paradox of self-amendment’ in law.

The Planning Table has been presented in the context of the (re)connecting.earth biennale, Les Créatives Festival, and FTW (For the Win) at Le Commun, Geneva, in 2025, and at The Critical Legal Conference, London, in 2026.
