Elif Satanaya Özbay – Something About a Double-Edged Sword
30.06.2023
This Friday 30th of June at 17:00 Elif Satanaya Özbay will perform her new piece, ‘Something About a Double-Edged Sword,’ created during her two-month residency at MORPHO. As a first iteration, this performance will act as a trial run for guests. Together they will explore heartbreak, sacrifice, and fate.
By referring to Circassian myths, pop culture, and Turkish folklore, Elif initiates pieces that start from an autobiographical point and continue to fictionalize throughout. Her background in film and video makes her look at performance from the narrator's perspective and questions accessibility by mind mapping and linking methods. The research-based works of Elif try to decode diasporic nostalgia within the horror genre, producing performances, visuals, and installations.
