Lecture

Join us during the upcoming Borger, on Friday 9th of June, for the finissage of Cleo Fariselli’s solo exhibition ‘Your Storm Our Dew’. During the evening, Cleo Fariselli will engage in a conversation with Danielle van Zuijlen, starting at 7 pm with a screening of the video followed by the conversation and a Q&A.

‘Your Storm Our Dew’ is inspired by the imaginative power of states of emergency. The video brings to life a world of its own, a disquieting environment where mysterious creatures seem to float on a dark background. Survival mechanisms become bodies, representing our collective unconscious and fears. The camera’s eye observes these mysterious life forms as if it were the first documentary record of an alien ecosystem.

Danielle van Zuijlen is an artistic initiator, collaborator and advisor; a sparring partner for artists and organisations. In 2018 she co-initiated Kunsthal Gent, where she is part of the coordination team and artistic coordinator for development. She also works on commissions through her company Lodewijks van Zuijlen. Her main interests are in artistic development, artistic strategies for art in social and public contexts, collaborative working methods and horizontal institutional models.

Van Zuijlen co-founded Hotel Mariakapel, a residency and exhibition space in Hoorn, NL, where she directed the programme until 2008. Between 2007 and 2016 she did many residencies and worked internationally as a guest curator. In 2015 she initiated PILOOT public art platform, in the context of a public art commission around the urban development Tondelier in Ghent. She co-developed collaboration projects between Flemish arts organisations (e.g. initiating Kunsthal Gent BE in 2018; SOLO, a residency as a collaboration between Flemish studio organisations, 2017-2018.) For studio organisation NUCLEO in Ghent she developed an artist support policy, resulting in the SUPPORT programme, self-directed by artists.

‘Your Storm Our Dew’ is supported by the Italian Council. Cleo is an artist-in-residence at MORPHO in May-June. The project and her residency is being carried out in collaboration with Almanac.
