oracle
Resident
oracle is an eyes-closed body-voice improvisation practice reading diverse spaces, from the intimate of private living rooms to public spaces and telepathic realms. It interacts with these surroundings through instant sound and movement composition, expanding the boundaries between individual emotional expressions and shared public space. Each practice session is unique to the moment and context. oracle was created in 2015 by Caroline Daish, Justine Maxelon and Michel Yang as a need to collaborate, vocalise and heal. After a hibernation period, following the death of Michel, oracle is slowly moving towards a possible future.
During their presence at MORPHO, oracle will use their practice to forage momentary information in public and telepathic space. What is unearthed via vocal readings that are invisible to the eye and ephemeral in their essence? Could readings of these spaces change the idea on how they could be used? Listening to silent or unheard voices in public space changes the practitioners and has an impact on these spaces and their public use. Telepathy allows for connection through distance and another perception of the world we live in. What futures make themselves possible, if we consider past, telepathic, silent or silenced voices?
oracle has been traversing diverse spaces; from the spontaneous appearance in public space to hosted moments at festivals like Kunst&Zwalm and Wandering Arts Biennale; from the art sector through organisations like nadine, Q-O2 and Buda to the fragile spaces of the care sector, for example In/Finity, a collaboration with the palliative daycare center Topaz. In 2024 oracle marked their first decade with the exhibition 'Looking back to look forward - detritus of 10 years oracle practice'. As the word detritus suggests, oracle creates with what it stumbles over, using publications, sound-pieces, performances, installations and oral or written transmissions as their medium.
