Miles Fischler
Resident
Miles Fischler (1991, Belgium) is an artist who mostly works with photography and film. They have a strong interest in human behaviour and solutions to larger and smaller issues. They consider their work a personal attempt at making sense of the world around them. They are looking forward to developing community-based practices, creating meeting spaces where ideas, practices and skills can be shared and meaningful connections can emerge.
During their residency at MORPHO, Miles will research how western capitalist society views the act of something ending (whether it is a life, a movement, a relationship,…) and painstakingly avoids it or views it as some kind of failure. How does this influence the way we treat our planet, our bodies and other living beings? How to make ends meet? They want to invite ideas of continuity and renewal to the table that embrace death as an essential component, not as an inconvenience.
Miles received a Masters in Photography at LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. They are involved in various collectives that include a community garden and singing in a queer choir and consider these as part of their practice. Last year, they followed a death doula course. Their interests include sustainability, queerness, community building and death practices.
