Studio Stuivenberg

In spring 2025, MORPHO will move into the Stuivenberg site with an engaged studio project. Artists will have the opportunity to play a role in the development of this promising social and green vein for the neighbourhood. The first floor of the gatehouse of the former hospital will be transformed by MORPHO into around 20 workspaces for artist collectives and individual makers. Studio Stuivenberg is committed to strengthening the position of artists in the city and stimulating the spirit of solidarity on the site through collaborations with Omarm Stuivenberg and the other cultural partners present.

What are the assets?

  • Individual or shared workspaces ranging between 14 m² and 74 m².
  • Rent at €5.5 per m² per month. Artists who indicate (on trust) that they have a low income receive a discount of €1 per m².
  • Advance of costs and charges (utilities, internet, insurance) at €2 per m² per month, excluding VAT. Settlement will follow after one year.
  • Lease for at least one year, after which we will mutually evaluate.
  • Use of the central common room of 40 m².
  • A public programme of workshops and open studios (autumn 2025).
  • Access to partner initiatives such as Summer Bar Publico and Cinema Stuivenberg.
  • Building management by our team.

For whom?

  • You are professionally active as an artist.
  • You live in Antwerp (including districts).
  • You have a focus on the visual arts, possibly with a transdisciplinary approach, and/or social practices.
  • You are welcome regardless of age, ethnic-cultural background, gender diversity, neurodiversity, and more.
  • We do our best to facilitate the needs of all, but due to the specific architecture (stairs, no lift), the first floor is not suitable for all conditions.

Strengthening Stuivenberg
Keeping in mind the context, we especially call on the following profiles to apply:

  • Artist collectives wishing to become independent in a (vzw) structure with our administrative help.
  • Artists who want to offer artistic workshops to people with a psychiatric vulnerability.
  • Artists from the neighbourhood or who want to collaborate with the neighbourhood to animate the site.

About MORPHO

MORPHO is an Antwerp-based nonprofit that supports artists in their artistic development and advocates for their place in the city. We set up local studio projects and international residency programmes that give artists time and space as well as new perspectives and mobility. In this framework, we provide a carefully curated community, network and working sessions that empower and encourage them professionally. Currently, we offer working spaces to more than 200 studio occupants in 15 locations in Antwerp and provide annual residencies to around 20 artists from Belgium and abroad. With this dual operation, we aim to create a solid and lively base for artistic work. With support from the city of Antwerp and the Flemish government.
