Exchange Residency Adam Mickiewicz Institute

The Adam Mickiewicz Institute, Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, and MORPHO are pleased to launch their collaboration in 2026 through an international residency programme. The Adam Mickiewicz Institute supports a three-month residency opportunity for one Polish artist in Antwerp.

The programme aims to support and promote the development and dissemination of contemporary Polish artistic practices in Belgium, while reciprocating existing cultural ties. It builds on the cultural exchange with Flemish artists who annually develop projects at U-jazdowski residencies in Warsaw with the support of the Flemish government.

Period

The residency in Antwerp, Belgium, lasts three months, from 1 August to 31 October 2026.

For whom?

  • This call is open to Polish artists residing in Poland
  • You are a visual artist, possibly with a transdisciplinary practice
  • During the residency, you wish to focus on artistic research and the development of your work, in the company of peers
  • Applicants are welcome regardless of age, ethno-cultural background, gender identity, neurodiversity, and more
  • We make every effort to accommodate individual needs; however, due to the specific architecture of the building (stairs, no elevator), the residency is not suitable for all physical conditions
  • There is space for one adult, possibly with a child. Organizing childcare can be challenging and costly for the resident, but we have good contacts with a local public primary school that is free of charge, depending on the child’s age. You are welcome to contact us in advance to discuss your personal situation

MORPHO offers

  • Artistic, production, and administrative support by the MORPHO team
  • A private room in the residency house (with shared kitchen, living room, library, and bathroom)
  • An individual studio space in the monastery (20–30 m²)
  • Access to the project space and the monastery garden
  • A weekly programme of sessions, based on the residents’ interests and input
  • Access to the production facilities of St Lucas School of Arts (darkroom, ceramics workshop, laser cutting, screen printing, etc.)
  • Online presentation of your work (website and social media)
  • A new portrait by our photographer Miles Fischler
  • Free access to exhibitions and events at Kunsthal Extra City

About MORPHO

MORPHO is an Antwerp-based non-profit organization that supports artists in their artistic development and advocates for their place in the city. MORPHO initiates studio projects and residency programmes that provide artists with time and space to work, within a community of peers and through a programme of sessions that foster connection and strengthen their trajectory.

MORPHO’s main location — housing its office, residency house, and residency studios — is situated in a former monastery and historic town house behind Antwerp Central Station and the Antwerp Zoo. The monastery site is shared with Kunsthal Extra City. In addition, MORPHO manages fifteen studio buildings in the city center and surrounding districts, where approximately 250 artists rent subsidized workspaces. With the support of the City of Antwerp and the Flemish Government, MORPHO aims to build and sustain a solid and lively base for artistic practice.

About Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art

The Ujazdowski Castle Centre for Contemporary Art, established in 1989, is located in a reconstructed 17th century baroque palace situated on the edge of the royal park in the heart of Warsaw. U-jazdowski develops, presents, and promotes art in all its forms. It is a place of bold reflection on cultural and artistic practices, as well as on the state of society – in the face of challenges, opportunities, and crises.

The residencies constitute an important branch of U-jazdowski's programme. In 2026, U-jazdowski residencies will become a space for activities focused on reflecting on coexistence, collaboration, and the relationship in post-human world in the face of contemporary crises. We invite artists and researches of various disciplines, whose work explores possible strategies of coexistence and regeneration. We are interested in how our everyday practices can become a starting point for building more sustainable and solidaristic futures.
