IT NEVER SSST
09.05.2026–22.11.2026
Belgian Pavilion – La Biennale di Venezia
Saturday 9 May marks the opening of IT NEVER SSST, the Belgian entry for the 61st International Art Exhibition of the La Biennale di Venezia. The work by Miet Warlop, curated by Caroline Dumalin, artistic director of MORPHO, was selected by an independent jury and will be on view until 22 November 2026. In March 2027, the project will travel further to the newly opened Kanal-Centre Pompidou in Brussels.
With IT NEVER SSST, the commissioning body, the Flemish Community, aims to highlight the twenty-year artistic career of Miet Warlop while also acknowledging Belgium’s strong tradition of performance and interdisciplinarity. It is the first time that performance art takes a central place in the Belgian Pavilion.
During Warlop’s exhibition-performance IT NEVER SSST, performers will regularly activate the installation through physical and sculptural rituals. Warlop’s work explores the urgency of human connectedness in an increasingly disorienting world and transforms the Belgian Pavilion into a space of energy, tension, and shared emotional experience.
MORPHO is honored to support this submission by its artistic director Caroline Dumalin as an institutional partner. We would like to express our appreciation to the commissioning body, Minister of Culture Caroline Gennez, Miet Warlop’s team at Irene Wool, partner Kanal-Centre Pompidou, the board members and staff of MORPHO, and the many individuals who contributed to making this project possible.
